Lightbulb Guild Wars size issue

Ok, I heard that Anet is planning to release new software every 6 months, which brought up a question in my head. If they plan on making something like Factions every 6 months, wouldn't the world get a little too big? For example, one of my ex-favorite games, Morrowind, was an awesome game with more depth in an RPG than I have ever seen, mainly because you could make a living by just hunting, trading, etc., but its one fault was that the world it was on was so painfully large(and not to mention desolate). I love GW more than any other game right now (onpar with Rakion right now) , but I REALLY don't want to end up in a game world that's just way too large. So I'll end with a question. Just how large are they planning to make the GW world? And if they plan on releasing new classes each time, won't they run out of ideas or start repeating themselves? I'm up for new material and such, but I really hope they know what they're doing.

whos to say they are expanding the map each expansion, everyone who has played through the original knows theres a lot of the current map yet undiscovered.
Just as a devils advocate, what if expansion pack 4 we get to play as char. Have a whole new row of character slots for char builds and the char starts from the hidden areas of the current maps of Cantha and Tyria?
Plus add a new PVP aspect? plus other various upgrades and etc...according to GW lore, all species were given the same spells.

Sure it could get stupidly huge, but then again in a year, I've uncovered most of the current map with ~500hrs play time. The more hardcore players will easily uncover the entire world every 6 months, and not only that but it doesn't really matter if you don't explore the lot, just do the missions and see the necessary places. In online games it's always better to have too much to explore than too little, or people get very bored very quickly.

Guildwars: The Lost Kingdom of Orr

But to OP, I like the idea of having a huge expansive realm (Elder Scrolls I - Arena was 10x as big as Elder Scrolls III Morrowind they had to gererate random towns just to fill space ) .

I do see the problem of lack of players in said realm, I love to explore but if no one is playing chapter 3 (current being chapter 6 for example) I need some really reworked henchmen to be able to explore these area's if we have too much land and not enough players.

Unless the expansion start adding to existing realms so say Chapter 1 and Chapter X mesh are in the same area I can see GW it getting huge.

I can also see lets look at the other side of the world, oh here is the (orginal new fantasy race here) then there is the "time travel thing" Say when all three kingdoms where at war with each other (Ascalon, Krytia, Orr) during the orginal "guild wars" plot wise.

The Luxons are roughly Robot Pirate things already. But seriously, I doubt anything too big will happen with Guild Wars. Sure, the map could get large. But isn't that what "M" is for 6 months a piece will surely be enough time to explore the maps nicely.

Say your new to guildwars and buy the most current Chapter, say 7, and it has a bonus, Chapters 1-4 for free.

the people that will be at a huge disadvantage will be people that start playing at factions. Have you seen the list of "prophecies only" skills its a laundry list of every skill you use consistantly. There are cookie cutter PvP builds that have like 5 or 6 skills on the propheices list. People that buy prophecies later are gonna have a lot of catching up to do

If Guild Wars is lasting to Chapter 7, and they're well off enough to be giving their first 2.5 years or so worth of chapters for free... That'll be quite amazing. So yes, it may be quite a lot to explore! Well... that's what Vacations and Weekends are for I guess >.> <.<

I hope so, each game has 1 full year of development in it (the delay before chapter 2 was to start the split cycle on development w/ two teams so it can come out every 6 months.).

Not only that they mentioned in the new article that the graphics engine is getting upgraded from Direct X 8 to 9 for factions so there not going to get too far behind on tech and graphics. Time will tell but I know Anet is not going to give up on the attempt.

The size of the world doesn't really matter so much in GW with map travel. In MMORPGs where u have to go everywhere, then it becomes a problem.

If they keep making it so large it will become boring eventually. I mean speak up if you personally play for the story line and are engrossed with the characters. I expect to see a bunch of sarcastic people say they are, but whatever. At some point, the expansions or *stand-alone games* need to just have new classes and skills. New weapons and armor each time will just lower the value of your current set-up like every six months. There will be no *uber* if when it comes out people are already anticipating the next version. They should just focus on PvP skills and new armors that have different bonuses. Creating another map the size of Tyria EACH and EVERY time will just become tedious to do the missions to get to outposts to get skills.

amusing

the recent interview stated that some future chapters would NOT have new classes as it would clutter things up to much.

more areas yes
more missions yes
more quests yes
more classes each time ...............nope

Yeah, that's a good point as eventually ANet will run out of creative ideas. Then they will just throw in junk and advertise it as a new class. Death Dancer anybody?

I don't like those things they are adding though. More missions? Boring. More quests? Boring.

The Guild Wars *.dat file, where you run the game from, is about 1.6 GB. That's hardly "big". The few games I have installed range from 2 GB to 6 GB (UT2k4 being the 6 GB game).

I consider that game size, on disk, about normal. And it's not like everything you download is added, parts of the file are overwritten.

You are in no position to say how creative Anet is. Just wait and see, and stop belly aching.

I suppose outlook on the next few expansions vary from person to person, but I hope they can figure a way to put good endings on to it. Now that I think about it, a good ending solution would be giving a different ending to each saga, but that makes me worry that GW will end up being like Dragon Ball Z(don't ask...). At the beginning, it was great. Towards the middle, a little bit dull. At the end, just let it die, don't drag it out kicking and screaming. I don't want ppl saying that about GW. I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I hope Anet will be able to give GW more "bang" for each add-on, make it unique each time(but that brings me back to the creativeness thing...). I suppose only time will tell...

one of things talk about and anet now knows that there are explorers out there. I my self am the one who posted it. They now are looking at different types of players who play this game. They value everyone that plays it. This big maps will have alot more to offer.

However anet can do so much. We as the players should take the time and offer your ideas to help build this world anet is building. They are doing it for all the players who play this game. meanig RPG, Explpores, pvp player every type of player.
